Talk:Alex Polyakov

I would like to seriously discuss the bold idea of dropping Alex Polykov altogether and gather 'his' operations under a different name.

I am of the opinion that, even if such a figurehead did at one time play a large role, that person is now being credited for operations that are being carried out independently by loosely-associated individuals and groups.

With the red herring out of the way, I feel the actual structure of the spams, and their inter-connections may be more easily analyzed.

"Alex Polyakov" is a convenience. It could just as easily have been "Alex Blood". Or "The Polyakov gang". Or "Alex Blood alias Alex Polyakov alias .. etc" - but that would just become cumbersome. It is a title for a group of related operations, which all have a common thread. Evidence links them together, links them into a common group. And that common group can be distinguished from other groups. It can also be subdivided into subsections.

Spamhaus used the term Yambo Financials to denote something similar. But Yambo has faded into oblivion. It's history. "Alex Polyakov" is not a real name, but one that a particular individual has used, along with many frequently used aliases identified in registrations. When complaining about web sites, it is more convenient to place them into a common grouping to speed identification. If you wish to remove that grouping (Alex Polyakov) - then you would need to replace it with another. Or several. That serves no useful purpose, and loses the focus.

If I was giving evidence in court, I could clearly show the linkages and commonalities between all of the operations identified with "Alex Polyakov" in the Wiki. --MarkGiles 14:17, 25 April 2007 (CEST) "The devil's greatest victory was convincing people he did not exist"
